SIGN 11: The peat
Peat is “thick water” and consists of plant remains. Peat soil always sinks. Houses are built on piles, but streets continuously sink along with the peat. The same goes for the Noorderhemweg, second only to the Zeeland Bridge, the longest bridge on piles in our country.
